Cooler inflation, the start of earnings season, and planning moves worth making before year-end.

    FROM OUR DESK

As we move through the summer, investors continue to balance encouraging economic developments with uncertainty surrounding interest rates, energy prices, and geopolitical tensions. Recent inflation data provided some welcome relief, while the beginning of earnings season offers another opportunity to evaluate the strength of corporate America.

As always, our focus remains on helping clients look beyond short-term headlines and remain aligned with their long-term financial plans. Thank you for the continued trust you place in our team.

    PLANNING SPOTLIGHT - MID-YEAR PLANNING

With tax season behind us, summer provides a valuable opportunity to review your broader financial picture before year-end deadlines begin to approach. This may include evaluating retirement plan contributions, reviewing charitable giving strategies, considering Roth conversion opportunities, or identifying potential tax-planning items from your most recent return.

Taking the time to review these areas now can provide greater flexibility than waiting until the final weeks of the year. Our team would be happy to work alongside your CPA and other trusted professionals to help identify opportunities and ensure your financial plan remains aligned with your goals.

    MARKET UPDATE

    Earnings, Energy, and the Fed

Markets are balancing cooler inflation data and the beginning of second-quarter earnings season against continued geopolitical uncertainty and rising energy prices. June inflation figures came in below expectations, helping Treasury yields decline, while strong early results from several major banks provided an encouraging start to earnings season.

    • Economic Update: June consumer prices declined 0.4%, while core inflation was unchanged from the prior month. Although the report eased immediate concerns about another Federal Reserve rate increase, renewed pressure on oil prices could make future inflation readings less predictable.
    • Equity Markets: Stocks have experienced some volatility as weakness in technology and communication services has offset strength in energy companies. Investors are now focusing on bank earnings, artificial intelligence spending, oil-refining profitability, and whether companies can continue converting favorable economic conditions into earnings growth.
    • Fixed Income Markets: Treasury yields moved lower following the cooler inflation report, but expectations for Federal Reserve policy remain sensitive to energy prices and geopolitical developments. Current yields continue to provide attractive income opportunities, while a more cautious approach may be appropriate as markets respond to changing inflation and interest-rate expectations.

    Looking Ahead

As we move further into earnings season, investors will be paying close attention to corporate guidance, particularly from large financial institutions, technology companies, and businesses investing heavily in artificial intelligence. Upcoming economic reports, including retail sales and the Producer Price Index (PPI), will also provide additional insight into inflation trends and the Federal Reserve's path for interest rates.

While geopolitical developments and energy prices may continue to create short-term market volatility, we remain focused on the long-term fundamentals that drive investment success. Maintaining a diversified portfolio and staying disciplined through changing market conditions continues to be our approach as we navigate the months ahead.
